Active in Seoul’s experimental music scene since 2013 through concerts at Seoul Arts Center, Pan Festival, House Concert et al, Duo Hellqvist/Amaral will now expand their long-standing relationship to Korea with a collaboration with percussionist Sori Choi, a multifaceted musician specialized in traditional Korean percussion. 

For the debut of the HELLQVIST/CHOI/AMARAL trio at One Month Festival 2017, concerts are planned in Korea, Norway and Sweden with new commissions bySven Lyder Kahrs (NO), Jorge Sanchez-Verdu (ES), Esaias Järnegard (SE) as well as works by Korean Younghi Pagh Paan adapted to our instrumentation. Common to these works is the wish to explore the meeting point between instruments used in traditional Korean music and performance practices of contemporary music, such as improvisation, extended techniques and the disclosure of new sound worlds.
